What are LATAM Airlines Upgrade Coupons?
Customers with the LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard, which carries a $99 annual fee, receive a number of valuable perks. Card benefits include earning rates of up to 4 LATAM Pass Miles per dollar spent on the card, two lounge passes each year and Upgrade Coupons, which can be used to upgrade eligible economy tickets to Premium Economy or Premium Business. After linking their Cardless and LATAM Pass accounts, eligible LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard customers receive three Upgrade Coupons in their LATAM Pass account each year. Coupons expire and a new set will be issued each on Mar. 31 of each year, for as long as your card account remains open and in good standing. Note that LATAM Pass Elite members receive Upgrade Coupons as part of their elite benefits, and are not eligible to receive additional coupons as a benefit of their credit card, with the exception of Gold elite members, who receive two Upgrade Coupons as a status benefit and will receive one additional Upgrade Coupon as a benefit of the LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard.
What can LATAM Airlines Upgrade Coupons be used for?
Upgrade Coupons can be used to request an upgrade on paid LATAM Airlines tickets booked into the Plus and Top economy fare category. Customers who request an upgrade via LATAM Airlines’ website may be upgraded to Premium Economy on flights within South America, or Premium Business on intercontinental flights.
In Premium Business, customers will travel in a lie-flat seat with 180-degree recline on LATAM Airlines’ Boeing 767, 777 and 787 aircraft. Amenity kits, premium bedding and elaborate meals are available on many of LATAM Airlines’ intercontinental flights.
In Premium Economy, travelers have access to priority boarding and special check-in areas, and can access the LATAM Airlines Lounge when traveling internationally, where available. Seats are located near the front of the aircraft, and offer additional legroom and recline, with premium meals included on certain flights. How many LATAM Airlines Upgrade Coupons do I need?
While a new upgrade system is expected to roll out on March 31, 2023, your LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard currently includes three Upgrade Coupons. As of the publication date listed at the top of this article, customers need to redeem between one and four Upgrade Coupons for each flight of a trip, depending on the origin and destination.
For example, LATAM Airlines notes that flights between the United States and the countries listed below have the following Upgrade Coupon requirements:
- Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay: three coupons per segment
- Peru: two coupons per segment
- Colombia and Ecuador: one coupon per segment
Flights entirely within South America typically require one coupon per segment, while flights between South America and Africa, Europe and Oceania can require up to four. See LATAM Airlines‘ website for the latest upgrade criteria.
How to redeem LATAM Airlines Upgrade Coupons
Customers can apply their Upgrade Coupons on LATAM Airlines’ website between 48 hours and 45 minutes before departure. Upgrades are first prioritized based on LATAM Pass elite status, then the time of request. Customers are prioritized as follows, regardless of whether or not a passenger has the LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard:
- LATAM Pass Black Signature elite
- LATAM Pass Black elite
- Cash bids
- LATAM Pass Platinum
- LATAM Pass Gold Plus and Gold
- LATAM Pass non-elite cardholders
After linking your Cardless and LATAM Pass accounts, Upgrade Coupons will be deposited directly into your LATAM Pass account within two (2) billing cycles. To view your Upgrade Coupons balance, visit the LATAM Airlines website and log into your account. Select LATAM Pass on the left panel and click “Upgrade with courtesy coupons.” A page will load displaying your current balance, with an option to apply your Upgrade Coupons if you have an upcoming eligible flight.
Coupons cannot be transferred, but LATAM Pass members with Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum elite status can apply their Upgrade Coupons to a companion’s reservation. Black and Black Signature elite members receive unlimited Upgrade Coupons for their own flights, plus additional coupons that they can redeem specifically for travel companions. Individuals must be traveling on the same flight as the elite member to be eligible for an upgrade, however they do not need to be booked on the same reservation. Children under the age of 12, along with passengers traveling with infants or pets, are not eligible to request an upgrade.
